Defense Leads Wilton Past Ludlowe

Wilton football defeated Ludlowe 17-7 at Tom Fujitani Field on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams were coming into the game having dropped their first two contests.

Wilton got on the board with 4.7 seconds left in the half on a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback RJ Romeo to Joe Pozzi.

Ludlowe had a chance to tie the game with 2:19 left in the first half but quarterback Aidan Kudzy was intercepted at the Wilton 25-yard line. The interception was one of four turnovers on the day for the Falcons. At halftime, Wilton held a 7-0 lead.

The Falcons were able to move the football in the first half but turnovers and penalties stopped what looked like promising drives.

Wilton extended their lead to 14-0 with 9:05 left in the third on a 19-yard touchdown run from John McFadden.

Ludlowe got on the board when Spencer Foley intercepted a pass from Romeo and returned in to the end zone for the score. Wilton’s lead was cut to 14-7.

Wilton tacked on a three points on a 28-yard field goal by Will Sullivan with 6:23 left in the game.

Ludlowe was driving with four minutes to go but a fumble recovered by Wilton’s Steffen Nobles give the ball back to the Warriors.

Ludlowe got the ball back with 1:31 to go and drove down the field again but Wilton’s Jake Savvaides picked off a pass in the end zone to seal the game for the Warriors.

Ludlowe drops to 0-3 and will have a bye next week before hosting Westhill on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.. Wilton improves to 1-2. The Warriors travel to Fairfield next Friday to face Warde at 7 p.m.
